"A pub but a really nice almost high end finish type of pub with very nice rooms to boot! This is not your usual place to stop by and have an average stay with average food. Everything about the place is welcoming and has attention to detail. Rooms have space, with comfortable beds and nice quality linen. The hotel part is fairly quiet too. The restaurant and bar is where things really shine. The bar has 100 ! varieties of whisky. Never seen this elsewhere in the UK. Breakfasts and their quality is something of local legend. People jump to get onto the best tables bang on time because they know the Sun is popular for food and the quality is uncharacteristically apart from British humdrum. Try their Sunday roast. The trimmings are quality with everything cooked by a real pro of a chef. Just make sure if you get beef, ask for it to be well cooked, I wished I'd asked for this for what was otherwise a posh roast dinner. Only downside with the place is that they are understaffed and therefore service suffers from speed. Taking all that on board however you'd do yourself a favour staying at this excellent establishment be it just for a drink and a meal, or also becoming a lodger for a few nights. Recommended!"

"Stayed overnight and had a lovely experience. As I am disabled we were thrilled to see a working lift to the second floor. Our room was cosy with a walk in shower as we had requested. There was a kettle and amongst others, Taylor 's coffee sachets. In the shower there were lovely 'White ' toiletries and fluffy towels. The Restaurant was roomy and airy and the food was delicious, hot to the table. The menu was varied and hard to choose from as everything sounded delicious. The staff were professional and very friendly, they couldn 't have been more helpful. Outside on each table there are real potted plants making the area bright. Very thoughtfully there was a basket of throws to use if the temperature dropped outside. All in all every bit was enjoyable. Thank you all."

"We had a lovely day at The White Cross. Three of us had fish and chips. The batter was delicious and crispy and the fish was perfect and fresh. I had the Thai Penang prawn curry which was also divine. The service was efficient and very friendly and sitting by the canal was restful and relaxing. A perfect spot."

"I stayed with a friend in a twin room. Comfy beds and very clean. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful. Great location next to the river, far enough away from the noise of the town but close enough to walk home after a few drinks. I loved my stay at the wig on and horses, I would stay there again if the chance arose."

"Serving Sunday lunch right upto Very rare these days. We booked our table for of us for so we could remain for the very good Sunday evening quiz. Even though it was late for lunch, the food was outstanding. The service was...very good too. Generous portions and very delicious. We will definitely book again next time we are in Lancaster."

"Not the best food if I’m honest could be so much better. I got chicken in a basket which was huge a pile of chips with 3 chicken strips on the top very average, my friend steak was well done when he asked for medium rare, and my girlfriends chicken burger was greasy. One thing I will say is all the serving staff where very helpful and friendly. The menu hasn’t changed much since the last time I went in a few years ago And they ran out of spiced rum on a Saturday evening. Management need a shake up with better organisation on stock and some new ideas."

"My wife and I had lunch here on 17th to celebrate my Birthday. we received a very warm welcome and had a very cosy lunch. The food was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the banter with Beth Rob and the team. Thank you Beth for spoiling me with the extra jug of custard with pudding- promise I won't tell!! The Cross Keys has a really nice and friendly atmosphere and we would recommend highly. Hope to call in again soon Thank you to all for a very nice experience"
