"What a little gem of a place overlooking Ridgegate Reservoir, Macclesfield. Warm, inviting, super friendly. We turned up ad hoc and starving. John the landlord couldn't have been more accommodating, finding us a table in the dog friendly side of the pub for us and the pooch. Food was awesome (the haddock was more than sizeable with the fish and chips) and the millionaire shortbread cheesecake and ice cream was to die for. Great atmosphere to boot. Well done team Leathers Smithy for your warm, friendly welcome!"

"Called in the Plough one weekday and was a bit disappointed. There were a few people in but there was no atmosphere and we didn't really receive a friendly welcome. 2 beers to chose from, Tetley and a golden ale, the other pump was off. We didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. I guess the positive reviews on TA must be based on dining. I'm afraid I won't be returning, it's just a pub I've never got on with."

"Been coming here since I was a nipper, it’s always cheap and cheerful, now I’m saddened to find a change of ownership has gone all fur coat no knickers. They have slapped some wallpaper up, they threw some gold spray painted junk on the walls, and you pay more than a fiver a pint for the privilege. The same sad hipster decor you get in other greene king pubs. I used to drop in after I visit my disabled sister as it helps me wind down and focus on me. was excited to see the refurb as the place has been looking tired. But now it’s not cheap, it’s not cheerful. The staff were very friendly and it’s not their fault, it’s just a shame this is what counts as an upgrade in Sunak’s Britain. I bumped into an old friend as I was leaving (couldn’t even finish my £5 Guinness it tasted funny) who said he met the new owner on the first day they were open, she sounds like a strange choice. Overall it’s a shame it’s not a pub for normal people anymore."

"Called in here twice recently, it's a Chef and Brewer pub, owned by Greene King and I enjoy their beer. On the first occasion, no Abbot and no Old Speckled Hen, only the Greene King pale was available. The OSH was apparently coming soon. We chatted with the manager, an amicable young chap who is doing his best to source the ale. Bearing in mind the OSH was coming soon, I convinced my neighbour to come here the following week. Mistakenly, I'd thought coming soon meant the barrel was just being settled in the cellar but it hadn't actually arrived at the pub. Again, no Abbot. Manager explained the situation, he's doing the best he can for sure but I was really disappointed. Ambience here is excellent and it's a warm, good looking pub that by all accounts does good food so 4 circles seems fair. I was really disappointed about the beer and we will undoubtedly be drinking somewhere else next time."
