"Newer review, DEC 2023: This place is an old school historic gem imo. It has been a staple for this older part of Mesa for several decades. in fact many Years ago a few people would actually ride their horses here from the farming areas to dine! I mentioned the nostalgia aspect of it years ago in a prior review. The ambiance is very homey no frills quirky mom n pop vibe. . the bar is a trip back to a slice of the late 50's rural type watering holes with small booths for dining. Some say the food is not good but they are wrong . While it may not be what some expect or are used to it is very good, or at least what we had. The red beef is dark rich and flavorful and ive heard the green is very good as well. . the beans and rice are very tasty and the tortillas seem home made. Salsa is chunky and on point and comes with a squirt bottle of rich thick extra semi fire sauce if you need it. The salsa also comes with a tasty cup of bean dip. we loved all of it. My wife is 4th generation Mexican and she says thumbs up! This deserves a 4.3 or better rating and should not be in the 3's at all. we are glad to see it back open and we will return! (older review) My rating is based on the nostalgia and quality I loved a few years ago. I will visit again as soon as dining indoors has resumed. I used to love having lunch in the cozy bar area. Praying its still as good as it was before. Welcome back!"

"Every time they close or I traveled, I try to find Mexican food that is like El Charro is sad, I found it impossible. Since Freddy's death, the founder, there are some challenges, I'm going to take care of her delicious food. Thanks for servicing us El Charro."

"Paid 15 for entry when we were told this place was supposed to be free entry. We asked if we could take a quick look around to see if the birthday girl wanted to actually be there since it 's her first time clubbing actually going out. They said no because if we let one person in we have to let everyone in which made no sence because there was 5 of us and only one person was gonna go in to check it out. But whatever, so we had to pay, music wasn 't too good but wasn 't terrible either. There was just people standing and one chick dancing, felt really awkward and dead, which seemed weird for a Saturday night? Don 't really plan on going back tbh, hope they were just having a rough night and that this isn 't the norm :"

"My favorite mariscos place in Mesa. And the michelada is on point. I do miss when it was more lively. ... the music would always be good these few last times ive gone for lunch been musicas romanticas... but the new remodel in restaurant is really nice and food still so good so it's all good!!"

"Absolutely amazing eating. the atmosphere is really nice, but a little too loud and a little too dark for my specific taste, but others will love it. everything on the menu was great! only something that would make it better is more personal to help. our waiter was great, but to say he was short serviced. also note the strong smell of wood charcoal they cook with. but it is worth it. her drink card is super"

"Awesome spot with some great ciders, coffee and pizza. We had just eaten, so we opted out of pizza, but from what we could see and smell, it appeared to be a great choice. For cider, there are several unique flavors available, and some great mashups with multiple fruits. They also had a specialty cider cocktail available in memory of a longtime member of the cidery, and it was a fun, different, and intriguing mix of several distinct flavors that paired nicely together. Weespecially like the Sangria, the Tango Juniper and Fort Morita. Staff was excellent; all friendly and attentive. I also appreciate somewhere that goes above and beyond to recognize and honor military personnel for all they've given over thehistory of our country."

"Drove 40 miles and checked this place out because it was recommended to me by my dad, who saw it on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. We were greeted by a pretty chill friendly dude named Miah who gave us some great recommendations ? We all split Charo beans, elote, lengua taco, barbacoa taco, red beef potato gordita, green pork and bean gordita, and tres leches carrot cake. It was all fantastic! They have something for everyone and all spice levels. They make their own tortillas and salsas and even have a large local beer variety. Nice out door/in door seating. Bathrooms were clean even the soap smells good Thank for a great lunch! We will be back again"
