"I heard the cook yelling. Unsure if it is directed at the employees. For me the time waited for the main meal was around 20 minutes. Waiter and waitress were good though.Food: 2/5"

"We read so many positive reviews about this place that we decided to try it when we were in Picton. As soon as we sat down, we noticed the lack of cleanliness everywhere. Ketchup decorated the underside of the railing by our table and the ketchup bottles have not been wipe in quite some time. The waitress was surly, treated us with contempt for whatever reason and acted as if she truly hated her job or us, perhaps the world. My husband usually jokes with a waitress but I advised him to behave. We ordered the pollock and chips and when it came, the fish inside the batter was wet and did not appear to be properly cooked. My husband thought it tasted like it had been frozen too long. Anyway, I mentioned it to the cook who said pollock is a soft fish and hard to cook but that he serves it to keep customers happy who prefer to pay less. I did not finish my meal and my husband did his best to eat what he could. Sorry but there is nothing about this place that deserves a second chance."

"On a two night stay in Picton in October, we actually ate at the Café Cortado both nights as we enjoyed it so much. Despite being very busy both nights, they were able to accommodate us and we found the service to be very friendly and attentive. The first night my husband had the blue cod fish, chips and salad, and I had the blue cod pan fried over vegetable risotto both excellent! The second night we did not think we would be lucky enough to get a seat. We had just watched a wonderful parade through the main street of town where some of the team members of the New Zealand's winning America's Cup team were there to show off the cup and the huge crowds began to disperse to bars and restaurants. We were just about to give up as we were told to expect a very long wait, when a lovely gentleman from Dunedin who was just finishing up his meal, offered us his table, and the wait staff encouraged us to go for it. We both enjoyed pizza, a bottle of wine and very good cappucino's to cap it off. We really liked this restaurant, and despite being run off their feet, the staff remained friendly and took good care of us. Would recommend."

"Chanced on Gus's whilst window shopping , and we were glad we did . Friendly greeting from the two waitresses , quick presentation of menus and drinks , followed by a great Club sandwich , and a Burger with fries - enough for 4 people , but we dug in and chomped our way through an enjoyable lunch whilst watching Picton main street drift past the window .My only complaint might have been that the a/c was set a bit too low ."

"Excellent street food. The service is friendly and the prices more than affordable. Everything, includin the fish & chip, was really delicious. And the deep fried mushrooms...! SO good! I will not go to Sandbanks anymore without stopping there."

"Hand cut fries are the best I have ever had!!! The ratio of cheese and gravy on the poutine is perfect. Great picnic table area to eat with the kids. They even give out freezies to thw kiddos ??"

"Overall our experience was nice. You could definitely use more vegan options. My wife and I were good, but our adult daughter had very limited choices. Suzie was our server and we came to find out she was an old neighbour that we hadn't seen in more than 15 years. She was great. We will definitely return. Thank you and have a great weekend."
