Very good pastries. Too bad the attention is a 0. The lady that took our order was very rude and tried to rush us to finish buying while almost shouting at us....

"I live in Potts Point, location of some of the best restaurants in Sydney; The Oakroom would hold it’s own in any large capital CBD environment. Imaginative menu, excellent senior chef and a young knowledgeable and very attentive staff. I was more than pleasantly surprised...by the food and beverage standards."

"The feedback below was sent in an email to the restaurant the day after dining in the restaurant at The Charles, after receiving a request to write a review on Google. Sadly, one month later, I haven’t received any acknowledgement or response. Ambience Lovely. stylish, not loud, and tables spread a good distance apart. Waiter A young uni student, very keen to please but obviously very little training on basic waiting skills such as: repeatedly bringing meals out without cutlery not providing a breather between courses didn’t offer salt or pepper difficult to get his attention as he spent quite a bit of time at kitchen servery removed bread plate while I still had bread in my hand had to be asked to provide more water wasn’t coping with the number of tables in his section. These comments in our email were made to provide positive opportunities for training by the restaurant manager as the young waiter certainly had a lovely manner. He kept apologising to us each time we had to ask for something. We suggested the restaurant manager provide appropriate training as he has a willingness to please. Food We booked based on the reviews and were very disappointed with the food overall. It certainly was not worth the cost. The homemade sourdough was delicious. We would have preferred salted butter rather than the unsalted whipped butter served. We ordered the gnocchi with sage/burnt butter sauce for entree as it is a favourite. The gnocchi served was very gluey and raw tasting. The sauce was tasteless. I suggested they remove this dish from the menu. The beef brisket dish was delicious. We asked for mustard and was told the kitchen doesn’t have any and we were given a thick sweet dark strong Korean sauce that would have ruined the meal. In my email I suggested having mustard or horseradish available as a condiment when requested. For dessert we had the deconstructed tiramisu with gelato. The waiter poured the espresso over the chocolate sauce telling us it will melt the chocolate. It didn’t. We had to crack the hard chocolate shell and found what tasted like cream only with no gelato or biscuit. The espresso had a good taste. The other dessert a cheese plate was laughable with one tiny thumb sized piece of Brie and no other cheeses, fruit purée which would be better suited to be served with a sharp tasting cheese, 3 wafers and 3 Parmesan crisps very similar to what was served with the brisket. Very measly offering. Wine Grant Burge Old Vine Shiraz was fantastic and the decanter was a positive surprise, offered by the waiter."
